Winnie The Pooh has been a childhood favorite since the 1920's. These stories have been teaching kids about coexisting with people who deal with different disorders through the portrayal of each character.
Winnie - Eating disorders Tigger - Attention-Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Eeyore - Depression Piglet - Anxiety Christopher Robin - Schizophrenia Owl - Dyslexia Kanga - Social Anxiety Roo - Autism Rabbit - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder The Sneetches, By Dr. Seuss, is a wonderful children's book that describes conflict between Star-bellied Sneetches and Plain-bellied Sneetches. Without reminiscing in the cruel way our world has come across racism and discrimination, this book describes these issues in a way that young children can appreciate and comprehend.
Dr. Seuss wrote Horton Hears a Who without intentions of abortion being depicted as the subject. However a lot of parents who may or may not support the Pro-Life campaign, have seen this book representing the same ideas. Whether parents take it as Pro-Life or not, this book shows children that all people matter, regardless of their size, color, identity, etc.
Raymond Briggs' book, The Snowman, helps children start to accept that death is a part of life. They learn that although it is sad, it is a normal part to every beautiful life, through the story of a young boy and a snowman.
